Watch: Your Clicks Are Going to the Businesses AI Recommends

In this short, Joshua Albanese, founder of Spearleaf, explains that falling Google clicks are going to the businesses AI recommends, because AI search uses memory and context rather than proximity and keywords. He then covers the on-page and off-page work behind getting your business recommended in AI search: structured data, detailing every service, reviews beyond Google, community forums like Reddit, and backlinks.

So if you have a website, you're noticing that your clicks on Google are going down. Everybody says it. But I'm actually not afraid of that. What I'm afraid of is that you are not being recommended by AI, because that's where the clicks are going.

So here with Google, you used to have you, and then a user would search, and it would be based usually on local proximity if you're a local business, or based on the keyword. Now with AI, it has memory, it has context, it understands who you are as a person. So it's actually going to provide a better result.

And the most important thing here is companies that are recommended by AI are four times to twenty-three times more likely to convert than organic traffic. That is huge. That's massive. And that's the thing that I really want to focus on.

And now you're going to ask, well, how do I do that? How do I become AI recommended? Well, in this world, it's an omnipresent view, okay? So that means that you need to be on Reddit. You can't just be on Google reviews anymore racking up those reviews. You need to go on niche-specific websites and get reviews there, in community forums. Like I said before, Reddit is just one of the more popular ones.

And then you need to fix your on-page work. So on your website, you own that asset, and it needs to have all the technical and structured data on there. Now, that might be a little highbrow for everybody, but understand there's an underlying principle in your website called structured data that needs to be there for the AI and Google to read it properly. Plus, you need to detail all the services that you have. So you have your on-page; that covers one of it.

Now we need to work on off-page. I mentioned a little bit about being omnipresent on Reddit, Google reviews, all that sort of stuff. But really, it's also backlinks. Backlinks are essentially trust signals. They're handshakes from other websites that say that your business is worth it, that your business is a trustworthy signal. And the more that you get those, the quality that they are, you will rise the ranks into AI. And that's going to be the biggest thing. And when your business starts ranking for all those keywords in AI, well, what's going to happen? Your business is going to go up, you're going to make a lot more money, and you're going to thank me.
