Business owner: Where should I be getting roofing leads? Half the ones I buy never even pick up when I call.
Joshua: Here are four ways to get roofing leads, sorted by one question: what happens the day you stop paying. One, bought leads from sites like Angi. Angi charges for the lead, not the booked job. Bought leads are fast. Pay, and requests can show up quickly. Stop paying, and they stop that day. Nothing carries over.
Business owner: The seller says the no-shows are my fault, because I don't call inside five minutes.
Joshua: Calling fast is good practice, but a homeowner who never picks up isn't always on you. Ask the seller where each lead came from. If a seller's leads rarely answer even when you call right away, try a different seller or a different source. Two, Google's paid ads. Search ads charge per click, and Local Services Ads charge per lead, not per click. Those homeowners searched for a roofer themselves, so they often call you first, and the rest usually expect your call. But the calls stop when the budget does. A new Local Services account takes a while to get verified, so plan for that.
Business owner: That's what happened to me. I spent around four grand on Google last spring, shut it off in July, and the phone went quiet that week.
Joshua: That's normal for paid ads. What should outlast the spending is the ad account and its search terms, in your name, so next spring starts smarter. Three, your Google listing and your website. They cost time up front, and they take months to bring calls. But a slow month doesn't switch them off. Real repair and replacement pages also give ChatGPT and Google's AI answers something to point to. Four, past customers and the neighbors they send. No fee, just your time, and they don't vanish when the ad budget does.
Business owner: So I should quit buying leads and just wait on Google?
Joshua: Not while a seller's leads sign roofs at a cost that still leaves you profit. Just don't lean on them alone in a year without hail. Count which source signed the roof, not which one rang. Usually it's a mix. Paid leads fill this month's board, and the listing and pages mean next year leans on paid leads less.
